Transmission Repair

When a transmission slips, hesitates, shifts with a hard jolt, leaks fluid, or leaves a warning light on, the symptom alone does not identify the failed part. The useful first step is finding the cause.

We start with diagnosis. We check the transmission, the fluid condition when it helps, and the systems connected to the problem. That lets us separate a specific repair from a rebuild or replacement. If more than one path makes sense, we start with the sound option that costs less.

When to park and call

If the vehicle will not move, will not go into reverse, will not stay in gear, has a major leak, smells strongly of burning fluid, or moves unpredictably, park in a safe place. Do not keep driving to test it.

Call the shop and tell us what the vehicle is doing before trying to drive farther.Leave the vehicle parked and request an appointment online. Tell us what happened so we can follow up during business hours.

Tell us exactly what changed

Tell us whether the problem happens when the vehicle is cold or after it has been driven, when you select Drive or Reverse, while accelerating, or during a shift. Also mention warning lights, leaks, unusual smells, and when the change began.

Slipping, delayed movement, hard shifts, shaking, no forward movement, no reverse, leaks, and warning lights can have different causes. A symptom is a useful clue, not proof that the whole transmission needs to be replaced.

How we find the cause

The first checks depend on what the vehicle is doing. We look for leaks, review the fluid condition when it is useful, check how the transmission responds, and use computer and hands-on tests to narrow down the problem.

Those checks help separate a problem outside the transmission, a maintenance need, a repair to one part or system, or damage inside the transmission. If more testing is needed before a repair can be confirmed, we explain that first.

What the repair may involve

The right result may be no repair yet, a specific repair, more testing, a rebuild, or a replacement. We can diagnose and repair transmissions, arrange a rebuild when that is the right path, or replace the transmission when the findings call for it.

We explain why one path fits the vehicle and the findings. When more than one sound option exists, we begin with the one that costs less instead of jumping straight to the largest repair.

Repair begins after you approve it

Testing comes before the recommendation. We explain what we found, what the vehicle needs, and which options make sense. Repair work begins only after you approve the written estimate.

Ready to have the transmission checked?

Tell us what the vehicle is doing, when it happens, and whether it still moves. We will find the cause first, explain the options, and wait for your approval before repair work.
